Graduate Student Karli Gold who was co-advised by Dr. Akhilesh Gaharwar and Dr. Abhishek Jain has successfully defended her Ph.D thesis on “3D Printed Blood Vessels for Translational Medicine”. Karli’s research focused on developing a three-dimensional (3D) bioprinted vascular tissue platform that recapitulates both the multicellular constituents and tissue architecture innate to human vessels. Overall, her research demonstrated the ability of 3D bioprinted vessels to recapitulate human in vivo pathophysiology, illustrating the essential coupling between biology, engineering, and material science, impacting preclinical research studies.
